The cost of a powder coating plant and all the elements needed to create a powder coating workshop may seem quite high at first, but after taking a closer look, you will notice that most of the expenses are one-off, so in the long-term, it can turn out to be very profitable.
Powder coating kit-where to start?
The powder coating set should consist of several key elements. These are a painting unit, a furnace, and a powder coating booth. In powder coating, proper preparation of the surface is as important as spraying the paint. For this purpose, appropriate conditions for grinding, polishing, and cleaning must be created. The keys to cleaning will be adequate lighting, the possibility of dusting, and adequate ventilation. For this, you need powerful halogen lamps and exhaust or good ventilation in the garage.
- Powder coating booth
A specialised powder coating booth can be successfully replaced at first by an appropriately adapted workshop, i.e., one with a ventilation and exhaust system.
- Painting unit
The basic element necessary for powder coating at home is the painting unit, because it will help us apply the paint evenly to the selected surface. The purchase of a painting unit can be considered a fairly expensive investment, as the cost of purchasing a good painting unit is quite high. However, it is worth taking into account that an aggregate of this type will serve for many years and the fact that, thanks to it, we will be able to apply the paint efficiently, i.e., using the minimum amount of powder paint and covering a large area at the same time.
- Powder coating oven
Due to the specificity of this method, i.e., the fact that the sprayed powder paint must then be melted, creating a solid coating, the next expense should be the purchase of a furnace. For starters, it does not necessarily have to be a specialised powder coating furnace, although such devices work best. However, the relatively low temperature needed to burn the elements (it ranges between 140 and 200 degrees Celsius) means that a non-dedicated furnace may suffice at the beginning. It is enough for it to be large enough for the items you want to paint to fit in it.
